Spring concert blooms despite winter weather
The UNI Men's Varsity Men's Glee Club performed their annual Spring Concert April 11, during an unusual spring snowstorm in Cedar Falls.
Despite the nasty weather, a large audience greated the Glee Club. In addition to the Glee Club, the small group Camerata, and yet another small group performed over a dozen pieces from Renaissance and Scandinavian styles to popular American music. All hail Les The Glee Club honored Dr. Les Hale, the founder and first director of the group. Dr. Brad Barrett invited Dr. Hale to the stage to thank him and members of his chorus, The Les Hale Chorale, for their contribution of over $12,000 to the Glee Club's foundation that bears his name. Dr. Hale then directed the Glee Club in singing "Brothers Sing On", the group's venerable anthem. Afterwards, alumnus Paul Marlow presented Dr. Hale with a gift bag filled with various Glee Club collectables - a t-shirt, sweatshirt, ornament and CD, including 'a most important item' - an official Glee Club beer mug. Ten graduating seniors were recognized during the concert. Three of the seniors, Adam Merkel, Neil Renken and Tyler Terpstra, have been in the group 4 years or more. A large number of Glee Club alumni attended the concert, some driving significant distances through the bad weather. The traditional after-party was at 'Neighbors' Pub and Grill in Cedar Falls. |
