Fall 2006 semester off to a fast start

The Glee Club’s first rehearsal of the Fall 2006 semester was Monday, August
21, 2006, and it didn’t take long for the music to start.

Jebe Hall filled with over 90 veterans and members new to the Glee Club. Roll
call took nearly 30 minutes, as each student stood and announced his hometown.

Dr. Brad Barrett is beginning his third year as director of the Glee Club. He
wasted no time getting to business, as the group rehearsed 3 songs to be
performed for the 29th annual Christmas Variety Shows in December.

“It’s a little strange to be singing Christmas music during an 80 degree day
in August,” said Glee Club veteran Casey Huff, “but we’ve gotten used to it.”

The group rehearsed one new piece entitled “Advent Joy”, which was written
especially for the UNI Varsity Men’s Glee Club by a composer and friend of Dr.
Barrett.

Veterans of the group talked to the new students about some of the Glee
Club’s traditions, such as ‘Seminar’ on Wednesday evenings.

“The pride in this group is so thick, you can cut it with a knife”, said
Barrett.

It promises to be an exciting and eventful year for the Glee Club, with some
even bigger surprises on the horizon for 2008.
