Oxford University hosts UNI Men's Glee Club

The historic Sheldonian Theatre was the scene for the Glee Club's concert at Oxford University, Tuesday, March 14, 2006. This was a combined concert with the well-known local chamber choir, "Oxford Collutorium".

The Oxford Collutorium, conducted by Will Orr, was founded in 1996 by a group of doctors from the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. The members of the Oxford Collutorium have combined their extensive musical experience with boundless enthusiasm, and through their concerts have raised over £3000 for local charities.

Sacred and secular songs were performed by both groups. The audience especially appreciated the Glee Club's African pieces, and the Glee Club's performance of "Ave Maria" moved several in the audience to tears.

After the concert, members of the Glee Club and the Oxford Collutorium met at a popular local pub, "The Kings Arms", where more singing and camaraderie was shared by the groups. One of the members of the Oxford Collutorium later said of the American singers, "They were all so nice and I was really struck by the maturity of even the youngest guys. They all seemed to be having the time of their lives."

The Sheldonian Theatre, located in Oxford, was built from 1664 to 1668 after a design by Sir Christopher Wren for the University of Oxford.

Donations from the concert went to the Oxford Homeless Medical Fund.
