Derringer, Green and Preston win scholarships to Europe
Three UNI Varsity Men's Glee Clubbers will be traveling to Europe in May, thanks in part to a generous alumnus. Mr. Cory Derringer, Mr. Andy Green and Mr. John Preston were the winners of this year's scholarship competition.
Members of the Glee Club wrote essays about one of the three virtues of the group: excellence, tradition and camaraderie. Professor Kiser chose the three winners based on their essays, as well as their participation, loyalty and hard work. John Preston is a Computer Science major from Cedar Falls, Iowa. Andy Green hails from Clinton, Iowa, and is a History Education major. Cory Derringer is a Political Science major from Knoxville, Iowa. Derringer said, "The UNI Varsity Man's Glee Club has provided the most unique and valuable experience of my college career, and I feel honored to have contributed to such an amazing group. This is my third year in the Glee Club, which means I was a freshman during the 2008 Poland/Czech Republic tour. The trip was what made me a true member of the Glee Club, and gave me some of the best memories of my life. It was on this trip that I experienced and exemplified the camaraderie that this group values so much." The alumnus who created these scholarships is a long-time supporter of the Glee Club. The group travels to Italy May 12, 2010. |
