Alum John Hagen, Texas Tenors, advance to "America's Got Talent" finals
The Texas Tenors, with UNI Men's Glee Club Alumni John Hagen '87, advanced to the finals after their Sept. 1 performance on the NBC talent competition "America's Got Talent". John's trio mixes country and classical music with a "Texas Tenor flavor."
John said, "Our last performance in the quarter finals - it was so incredible. Not many people get this opportunity. We're grateful for it, and we want to make the most of it."

During the episode, Judge David Hasselhoff claimed that the Texas Tenors were "without a doubt the frontrunner" to win. The Texas Tenors are headed to Las Vegas.

Considered the rock of the group, John brings a wealth of classical music training along with his baritone voice. He divides his time in Texas performing, spending time with family, and running the Henry W. Myrtle Art Gallery on College Hill in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

In April of 2009, best friends Marcus Collins, J.C. Fisher, and John Hagen learned that "America's Got Talent" was coming to Texas for auditions. Though they had moved away from each other because of family obligations, they thought coming out to audition would be the opportunity of a lifetime. With various backgrounds in the performing arts, they decided to combine their individual talents and become The Texas Tenors. Mixing country and classical music with their own Texas Tenor flavor, they auditioned with aspirations of winning over the judges and sharing their fresh new act with all of America.

John Hagen is a 1987 UNI graduate with a bachelor's degree in choral music. He was a member of the UNI Varsity Men's Glee Club in the mid 1980's, and performed on the UNI Varsity Men's Glee Club Christmas Variety Shows.
